Issues in the statistical mechanics of steady sedimentation

چکیده
A critical review is presented of recent experimental and theoretical work on the steady sedimentation of particulate suspensions in viscous ̄ uids. The point of view is that of a practitioner of non-equilibrium statistical physics rather than classical ̄ uid mechanics.

Fundamental Solution in the Theory of Thermoelastic Diffusion Materials with Double Porosity
The main purpose of present article is to find the fundamental solution of partial differential equations in the generalized theory of thermoelastic diffusion materials with double porosity in case of steady oscillations in terms of elementary functions.
متن کاملA ug 2 01 4 Exact results for a simple epidemic model on a directed network : Explorations of a system in a non - equilibrium steady state . Maxim
Motivated by fundamental issues in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics (NESM), we study the venerable susceptible-infected (SIS) model of disease spreading in an idealized, simple setting. Using Monte Carlo and analytic techniques, we consider a fully connected, uni-directional network of odd number of nodes, each having an equal number of inand out-degrees. With the standard SIS dynamics at ...
متن کاملDynamics Analysis of the Steady and Transient States of a Nonlinear Piezoelectric Beam by a Finite Element Method
This paper presents a finite element formulation for the dynamics analysis of the steady and transient states of a nonlinear piezoelectric beam. A piezoelectric beam with damping is studied under harmonic excitation. A numerical method is used for this analysis. In the paper, the central difference formula of four order is used and compared with the central difference formula of two order in th...
متن کاملDirect Simulation of Initial Value Problems for the Motion of Solid Bodies in a Newtonian Fluid Part 1. Sedimentation
This paper reports the result of direct simulations of fluid-particle motions in two dimensions. We solve the initial value problem for the sedimentation of circular and elliptical particles in a vertical channel. The fluid motion is computed from the Navier-Stokes equations for moderate Reynolds numbers in the hundreds. The particles are moved according to the equations of motion of a rigid bo...
متن کاملEffect of Temperature Dependency on Thermoelastic Behavior of Rotating Variable Thickness FGM Cantilever Beam
Thermoelastic behavior of temperature-dependent (TD) and independent (TID) functionally graded variable thickness cantilever beam subjected to mechanical and thermal loadings is studied based on shear deformation theory using a semi-analytical method. Loading is composed of a transverse distributed force, a longitudinal distributed temperature field due to steady-state heat conduction from root...
